Are you still there?

Well it certainly has been a very long time since I have posted, I have my reasons some good, some not so good. The main thing is that over time I kept thinking that perhaps I made a mistake in bringing over the Song of the Moment idea away from my blog, not that I have blogged any more these days either. I am in the middle of a mass redesign of my blog and am currently weighing the option of leaving this tumblr blog active, or instead bringing Song of the Moment back into the fold of the blog. Which ever is the case, I want to thank my loyal followers for their patience. Thank you.

When I first heard this song I was immediately reminded of the fact that I really truly, honestly liked the orignial by Avril Lavigne. Those days are sadly gone, wiped away by my new found love of punk rock music. Zebrahead has really climbed my personal playlist charts and this song is yet more proof that sometimes a cover can improve on the original. I hope that Zebrahead makes it to your own personal playlists as well. Stay tuned for the future of Song of the Moment. :D

You see before when I started out, I would post a song and my little random banter about said song and then I would refresh the page constantly, waiting for new comments and / or followers. Then when I started becoming more and more popular, I started posting more and more because I thought that was the key to success, it could be, but slowly, but surely I realized something even more important. I should post about a song because it means something to me, or I want to share it, not to just gain some popularity points with the interwebs. That is what Song of the Moment was initially about. Ah change, isn’t it strange and great at the same time? Which brings me to…

Today’s song of course! In truth I only really heard about this song originally while playing Burnout Dominator by EA and it just so happened to be part of the soundtrack. There was actually a lot of songs from that game that joined my music collection, but those are for a different day.

I really don’t know much about Army of Me. I know they have a website, I know that Wikipedia classifies them as “Indie” and I know that their last album was released in 2007; “Citizen.” At any rate, I will note that what is most important is that this song really signifies that I myself am Going Through Changes yet again and while change is always scary to me [I have no idea why that is] I have a feeling that this change is going to be for the better, I just know it.

My posts have become fewer and far between, but I would like to believe that makes them much more special. I may post more in the future, but that is a promise that I just don’t want to make. Enjoy the song and your Saturday, should you be reading this on the day it was originally posted.

I also know that for me to post a Michael Jackson song would be topical yet, not me as I only really care for a couple of his songs. [ Editors Note: R.I.P Michael Jackson, you really made a mark on this world with both your musical talents and your groundbreaking revolutions to the music industry, it’s too bad that you yourself couldn’t find some peace in this world, you will be missed. ]

On that note however, I will talk about why I am posting Feeling This by blink-182 [NSFW].

I have been a fan of theirs for ages, since way back in the day they will always remain on my top faves list for music and even now I still find myself wanting to listen to their songs, though my music tastes have clearly changed. I am fortunate to be able to attend one of their upcoming concerts now that they have reunited and I just know it will be epic. I seriously cannot wait.

Feeling This is one of those songs that just serve more than one main purpose. A) It’s catchy, yet cleverly written. B) It has a meaningful message within the lyrics of the song and C) It showcased that blink-182 had matured since their last album and let their musical talents and creative minds evolve along with them. The song, interestingly enough is about sex, but the way the song goes about this subject is of higher importance. The main verses deal with the raw, lustful side of sex while the chorus is the opposite; tender, loving much more romantic side that is just as important. The story of how the song came to be is as such; Tom and Mark are sent off into seperate rooms to write lyrics for a song, when they come together they discover that they had each written about sex, each one however had written about it different than the other. Clearly an interesting concept, even better was that the song near the end, showcases Mark and Tom intertwining their vocals that tie the whole song together. It has always been a fave of mine, even when my friends were like; “Dude, what happened to blink-182? They aren’t that good anymore.” I would always look back at them and smile and say, “No, they aren’t good anymore, they are better.”

The song comes straight off of the album “blink-182” and while I don’t know when I will post next, I can say that I really can ramble on should I need to. Enjoy! [NSFW]

Today is all about the results of the latest Song of the Moment Poll.

*Enter the sound of crickets chirping…*

Yup only one person voted on the poll and it wasn’t me, so thank you whoever voted. The winning result was an Angry and Loud type of break-up song, which seems fitting depending on how the whole post break-up went. To say that the Break-up theme wasn’t very popular is an understatement, even as I posted every second day my tumbularity dropped massively on the first day and I even lost a few followers along the way. Damn you tumbularity!

So I dedicate this song to tumbularity — an evil device that somehow “accurately” measures a tumblr’s popularity. Sarcasm is a bit harder to display in web writing format than I thought. Enjoy!

Let’s be honest here, most of all of Bowling for Soup’s songs deal with relationships and breakups and that is one of the many reasons why I love them.

They are clever with their lyrics and the melodies that accompany them are just down right catchy. I seriously cannot wait for their latest album. For now however, lets head back in time for a bit, not too far, but to their current album; 2006’s The Great Burrito Extorsion case. If you own or have heard this album, you will see what I see, that they could very well be the happiest band around, as there are very few sad/downer songs on this album. Simply a must pickup for any BFS fan.

Now the great thing about this song, A Friendly Goodbye, is that it cleverly disguises swears with more PG 13 style of wordings. So I can say that this is safe for work as it doesn’t really say the words, merely it implies them. Awesome. It’s got a happy go luckly upbeat kinda sound which really helps the song out and it is on the top of my list for more “friendly” sounding breakup songs out there. I hope you enjoy your weekend and that your tumblr’s be tumblr-tastic! Later!

Well now, how perfect is this song for our little theme we got going on here? I mean “The Breakup Song”, that’s just asking to be on this list. Hello and welcome to another post-breakup edition of Song of the Moment!

Unlike the previous band that I mentioned Hedley, I really like American Hi-Fi and at one point in time or another I owned all three of their released albums, with “Hearts on Parade” being an instant fave. Does fave end with an “e”? Anyways, this song actually appeared on the album before Hearts which was a much rawer, almost angrier sounding album. 2003’s “The Art of Losing” was an interesting sound for the band, which almost makes me suspect that they were still trying to find their sound, which I believe was found on 2005’s Hearts on Parade. “The Breakup Song” is both clever and powerful and was an instant classic song for those who have or will go through a breakup. Blah, blah, blah… enjoy the song!

Good morning Tumblr’s and welcome to another bitter-filled edition of Song of the Moment! Why so bitter you ask? Well it just happens to be the theme we are running here on Song of the Moment these days, mainly cause romance and relationships seems like stupid, horrible things to me and my bitterness is slowly increasing. However, the main reason I am doing this is that there are many great break-up esque songs out there that I feel are worth sharing. So while I may be bitter these days, it is merely just a temporary set back until life gets back on track.

Right on with the show then. So here we have Hedley and while they have a few songs that I like, like really like, I don’t really care too much for them all that much. I know they have a myriad of fans out there, so my meager liking of them won’t affect their popularity at all. I feel that “She’s So Sorry” is one of their best songs yet, sure it’s off of their latest album; “Famous Last Words”, but the pure raw energy and powerful emotion you cannot help but feel completely puts it over the top. To say that I listened to it alot post break-up is an understatement and speaks volumes of it’s break-up song potential. I hope you enjoy it and that it makes your breakup, that much more tolerable. Later.

Such is the case with relationships and the post relationship feeling. Sometimes you feel angry, sometimes you feel happy, sometimes you feel sad, it always varies and it really depends on how it ends. So how about an angry break up song? Welcome to Song of the Moment!

Billy Talent’s “The Ex” comes straight from their debut album which was simply self-titled. It’s a rapid fire type of song that is relentless in it’s delivery and features their patented screaming that really fits the overall tone of the song. Bravo. Nothing like some raw angst to really get you through a rough time.

While I don’t listen to Billy Talent as much as I used to, I still like them and The Ex was always a fave and I feel that it fits perfectly. It is also worth mentioning that this song marks the debut of Billy Talent on Song of the Moment, so that is pretty special in it’s own right. I don’t know what the next breakup Song of the Moment is, so you’ll just have to stay tuned to find out. Thank you and enjoy!

Continuing on with the “break-up” theme of Song of the Moment, I bring you SR-71’s “Mosquito” off of their last released album “Here We Go Again.” I just hate it when my fave bands go all “Indefinate Hiatus” on me, but whatever, sometimes it’s for the greater good. That’s what I tell myself anyways.

For me this song has many different meanings, it reminds me of my relationships to a point, it reminds me of relationships that my friends went through and it reminds me of why I love punk rock the most. It’s all about saying whatever you want to say and however you want to say that. Sure, I could always just listen to a sad song, but sometimes the best thing in the world is to just keep on rocking and to take each experience head on.

It’s interesting that once you are no longer inside that relationship bubble anymore, you see the truth. You see what your friends see and that no matter how much you change for that person, that no matter how close you are it can always end. Makes me wonder why we even bother at all sometimes. Bitterness aside, Enjoy! [NSFW]

I saw this image on the artists official site and I thought to myself, “Yeah, that’s the pic.” Can’t be professional all the time now can we, besides, where is the fun in that?

Keeping in with the “break-up” theme of Song of the Moment, “You Lied” by Allister really seems like a good fit in the overall “break-up song genre” and for one close friend it really seems to hit home with him unfortunately. Yes, it’s another punk rock / pop punk song, but hey, I just seem to really relate to the genre for one reason or another. We all have our favorites, this just happens to be mine.

“You Lied” comes straight off of the band’s last released album from way back in 2005; “Before The Blackout.” The band is currently on an indefinite hiatus, which seems to happen a lot these days. I only hope that it may one day end and they can continue to spread their music to the masses. Enjoy! [NSFW]

Anyone at all? I only ask because, my tumblarity has dropped all the way to zero. That isn’t my fault, my internet has been down for the whole weekend and a day or two before that, so ha, jokes on you. Anyways, who really cares about tumblr popularity anyway? On to the show and welcome to Song of the Moment!

It Seems to me that “break-ups” have been the theme for Song of the Moment lately and who am I to change that. This song nearly perfectly sums up my last relationship to a “T” Not that it’s bad, it’s just that it ended kinda rough, which I am happy to say we can still talk to each other like old times so that is awesome. Basically, in the end, I chose that I’d rather have my own single life and spend time with my friends than to even think to get back together with her again. Sometimes things just don’t quite work out how you think they are and that is ok, there is nothing wrong with that. Now I also said that I wouldn’t talk about my last relationship anymore, but with a theme like “break-ups” how could I not draw from my own life?

“My Friends Over You” has always been one of my favorite “New Found Glory” songs and I can nearly sing it all without making any mistakes, yes I sing, but who really cares it’s mostly just in the car or when I’m all alone. “Sticks and Stones” was the name of the album and I feel that it is definitely a pick up if you like New Found Glory at all. I hope you enjoy the song and that you yourselves aren’t going through a breakup in this point in your life.

It’s a gloomy Monday morning where I am right now so why not have some music to help begin the day? Today’s Song of the Moment is kinda more raw soundings, a bit edgier and of course catchy. The moment I heard it, I knew I would enjoy it.

The song has got this energy about it you know, it just grabs you and kinda makes you feel different, which can be a good thing. It seems to center around being different and no one giving you the time of day because you are independant and that you seem to not need anyone. Personal favourite part of the song is when he says the title of the song; “And he’s pouring on the gasoline, and he’s pouring on the gasoline, and he’s pouring on the gasoline, if you know what I mean.”

It’s just such a nice variation to the usual stuff I tend to listen to that I thought it was worth mentioning. Plus I like the song, so that helps out as well. Yet another case of a band I have never heard of before, good things come to those that seek out change. Yeah, I totally just made that up. Enjoy the song and enjoy your Monday, even if you happen to work.

Great scott, my Tumblarity has dropped like 10 points since I last posted, which just goes to show you that unless you post relentlessly, your tumblr-popularity will decay. Oh well, I post for myself, not for some virtual popularity. Well it would be ok if some people liked my work too though.

There are two reasons why I have chosen to post this song by Zebrahead, well, more like 3 reasons.

1) I really like it.

2) It makes me feel better and that I realize that people breakup all the time.

3) My friend has just suffered a devestating break up and I dedicate this song to him.

That is quite a bummer, but it seems that when you least expect it, bam, it’s over and you are left reeling with the pain of what if and why? The only bright side of breakups is that you can normally change and grow with each failed relationship and you really get to learn about yourself in the process.

Hopefully the next Song of the Moment will be a happier one. Enjoy!

To say that I have been sick for awhile now is a bit of an understatement. It’s been around nearly 3 weeks with this horrible sore throat / old man cough and man do I ever feel exhausted. The only good thing to come out of it is that I have been watching a lot more music television lately so my music tastes have been expanding a little bit more each time. Also I do all the annoying things on my computer that if I was feeling better I wouldn’t even do, like customizing my sound scheme for my operating system and making a partition for Windows 7 RC. A little bit off topic, but that’s just what I do. So anyways…

The story of the Brandon Paris Band is an interesting one. They formed in 2002 but didn’t release their debut album until 2006 which unfortunately I never even heard of it, sorry guys. Flash forward to 2008 and they release the single “Say Goodbye” by themselves, with their own money to create the video for the song which was uploaded to YouTube. It became so popular that it was featured on both iTunes and MuchMusic. Funny thing is, the first version of the video only cost the band $4.00 to make. Sometimes all the glitz and glamour in the world isn’t needed to catch someone’s attention. The band got a second chance to make the video and that was the version I noticed. Enjoy!

Well the results are in and I am happy to announce that overall the redesign was more popular than the first design. Welcome to Song of the Moment!

I have liked The Killers since I first heard “Somebody Told Me” off of the excellent “Hot Fuss” album. The Killers bring back the essence of 80’s synth music while keeping it modern, which is interesting cause I generally don’t care for classic music. Most things in life though aren’t that cut and dry and change is just a few footsteps away. I am trying my best to listen to all forms of music but I think that my bias towards Punk Rock might skew that view a bit, but at least I am trying right? While Hot Fuss was an excellent debut album by the Killers, Sam’s Town wasn’t nearly as popular and most people felt that the Killers lost some of that first time magic, I didn’t, I really enjoyed that album but I do agree that it wasn’t the same. Day and Age seems to be a return to the sound that made them big, but I don’t have the album yet so I cannot be certain, however if the first two singles are any indication I cannot be far off.

Spaceman is the second single from the Killers latest album “Day and Age” might just have to go pick that one up one of these days. Enjoy

Thank you weird cold I have and welcome to Song of the Moment.

I heard this song last night and I told myself that I would remember the name of it by morning and luckily I did. This song immediately hit me with it’s insanely catchy and dancable hooks. The lead singer also has a very interesting sound going for him and it can be best described as “Dance/Electro meets Punk” which is exactly what their bio says. This must be a brand new band as I am having a hard time finding out any information about them. The only things I know are; they are canadian, they are comprised of 6 guys, their new / debut album drops on May 5th and this song is incrediably catchy. I don’t even think they have a wikipedia page yet, that’s how new they are. They do have a couple of websites so pop on down to the learn section to check those out. Most importantly enjoy today’s Song of the Moment and don’t be afraid to leave a comment if you feel so inclined to do so. Also just for fun check out the official video as well.

Perhaps the new music of today’s generation isn’t so beyond my love of the 90’s Punk Rock style that I can actually still enjoy it.

Oh what a tangled web we weave. Hello and welcome to Song of the Moment.

I am sorry if your name is Kate, Katrina, Katherine or any variation of the name “Kate”, I don’t hate you, but apparently someone from the band I Hate Kate does. Embrace the Curse is an amazing upbeat song that centers around the idea of having problems, realizing them and embracing them. Reminds me of me, except that I don’t always embrace what I feel when I feel what’s wrong. I do embrace the song though and my curse of being an anti-social outcast since high school and being ok with it, I embrace who I am, I embrace the curse.

Yeah totally ripped off the lyrics there, but that’s just how well I know them. There is just something about IHK and the style of music they play that I honestly cannot put my finger on it, but it is highly enjoyable. Enjoy and may it enlighten your day!

The track comes from the album of the same name “Embrace the Curse”

I’m going to come right out and say it, I’m not a professional writer. I don’t really know what makes music good or not and my opinion is solely my own, no one elses. I just really enjoy sharing songs with people [ the legal kind of sharing ] and it’s fascinating to me that we all like different kinds of music. With that out of the way, let’s talk about the song.

I’ll admit that I really enjoyed this song more after I broke up with my girlfriend for the sole reason that hey, I broke up with my girlfriend, I want to listen to some breakup music. Sure that was months ago now, but everytime I hear this song and a few others, I begin to remininse. “Postcards From Hell” comes off of the 2005 album “Broadcast to the World” which just also happened to be new co-vocalist Matty Lewis’ debut as Zebrahead’s new lead singer. Nothing like an angry, yet upbeat, breakup song to make the day seem a little brighter. Please note, I am trying to stop talking about my last girlfriend, it just makes such a good conversation starter lol. Enjoy! [NSFW]

I have been really enjoying New Found Glory’s latest offering; Not Without A Fight, so much so that I have been listening to their older material as well. One song that I always enjoyed was “Failure’s Not Flattering” from their 2004 album “Catalyst”

Catalyst was proof of yet again how musically talented these group of guys are as it was different than their previous work while still maintaining that specific feeling that New Found Glory exude. Other favourites on this album include the lead single “All Downhill From Here”, “Your Biggest Mistake” and “I don’t Wanna Know.” I may not have kept up with them like I did with my other favourite bands, but it is good to know that they are still around and are still producing excellent music.

New Found Glory is just one of those bands who you’ll enjoy or who you won’t. The lead singer has a very unique vocal styling that takes a bit to get used to, but I am so glad that I did cause not only does he sing amazingly, he also pens such wonderful meaningful songs. From wonderfully upbeat to downtroden and nearly depressing his range of emotional writing is as varied as the types of music this band has produced for our enjoyment, I can only hope that they keep at it and keep finding new types of music to play while not completely disregarding those of us who enjoy their punk rock style most of all. Enjoy!
